Coladeira

Native to the Cape Verde islands, coladeira has its roots in another Cape Verdian genre of music, the Morna, and has a history going back to the 1930s when Anton’ Tchitch’ experimented with the compositions of morna pieces by increasing the tempo and making the music more lively. Although these mornas were called coladeiras at the time, they were still idenitified as being mornas rather than belonging to a new style.
