Hardgroove is a form of techno that relies heavily on samples and percussion. Lots of intertwined samba/bongo grooves with a distortion and sidechain compression applied.
Hardgroove is a fusion of energetic techno with raw Chicago, Caribbean, and Latin rhythms.
The name "hardgroove" probably first appeared in 1996, with Ben Sims's Hard Groove Trax mixtapes.
Stylistic originators of hardgroove comes from hip-hop: The repeating of the drum breaks .
