Sway vs DICE: which ticketing platform for your event?
Compare Sway and DICE: published self sign-up fees, payout before or after the event, and discovery apps. On Sway the buyer pays 3% + €0.30 and you receive the full ticket price.
| Feature | Sway | DICE |
|---|---|---|
| Fees paid by the buyer | 3% + €0.30 per paid ticket, VAT included. No fees on a free ticket. | A 9% service fee on face value, minimum £1 (local currency to apply), “plus any applicable sales tax”, charged as outside commission (added to face value). Plus a 3% transaction fee “plus any applicable sales tax” on the total (face value + service fee). No service or transaction fee on a free ticket. |
| Fees paid by the organiser | No extra commission: you receive the price you set (e.g. €20 → €20) on a standard card. | On self sign-up, those fees sit outside commission on face value: you receive that face value. DICE keeps 100% of the service fee and the transaction fee. A partner contract may say otherwise. |
| Payout timing | The money reaches your account within a week, even before the event. Sway does not hold your ticket money. | DICE collects the proceeds on your behalf, then pays you “within 5 Business Days” of the date the event takes place. |
| Marketing tools | Automatic notifications to your followers; email and custom push on paid plans; ambassadors; Meta and TikTok pixels; Swapy, free on every plan. | DICE is first a discovery and ticketing app, with personalised recommendations. This page does not list organiser tools their public terms do not describe in the same way. |
| Discovery / audience | The Sway app and site, focused on raves, clubs and electronic festivals (genre, city, artist, line-up, set times). | The DICE consumer app: gigs, clubs, comedy and other nights, with a recommendation feed. DICE says the price you see first is the price you pay, with no surprise at checkout. |
| Niche | Electronic music. Tickets in 16 currencies. | Live entertainment more broadly (UK, Europe, the US and beyond). |
| Site and photos | A site on your own domain from Studio. Photo galleries per event. | Not compared here. |
DICE is a ticketing and discovery app, known for gigs, clubs and other nights out. Sway is an app and a ticketing platform built for electronic music: line-ups, set times, door check-in, and organiser tools in one place.
Both add fees on top of face value, paid by the buyer on the public offer DICE calls self sign-up. On that offer, DICE’s published fees are clearly higher than Sway’s. Both of you should still receive the face value. The difference is what the public pays on top, when the money arrives, and the tools around the ticket.
The DICE figures below match their public self sign-up rates in effect in November 2026 (Belgium offer). They do not apply if you have a separately negotiated contract (Commercial Terms). In that case, your contract wins.
In the US, the price a buyer sees on Sway is all-in: the event page shows the price with fees included. In US dollars Sway’s service fee is 4.5% + $0.35 per paid ticket. DICE’s terms say they do not disclose fees in the app or website except where required by law.
A worked example on a €20 ticket (Belgium self sign-up)
A calculation from the published rates, for a one-ticket order. The service-fee minimum (“£1, local currency to apply”) is read here as €1 in Belgium.
- DICE service fee: 9% × €20 = €1.80 (above the €1 minimum).
- DICE transaction fee: 3% × (€20 + €1.80) = €0.65.
- Total excluding tax: €2.45.
- If a sales tax applies, for example 21% VAT in Belgium: €2.45 × 1.21 ≈ €2.97. This is an indicative calculation: the terms say “plus any applicable sales tax” without publishing the rate applied to every organiser.
On Sway, on the same €20 ticket, the buyer pays €0.90 in fees (3% + €0.30), so €20.90 in total. You receive €20.00.
On a €15 ticket the same method gives €1.35 + €0.49 = €1.84 excluding tax on DICE, or about €2.23 including 21% VAT if that tax applies — versus €0.75 on Sway.
If you are on a partner deal, these amounts do not apply. Compare from the rate written in your Commercial Terms.
Tools, discovery and the scene
Sway is built for a team that puts on electronic nights: tickets (early bird, promo codes, pay-in-instalments), orders, door check-in and offline scanners, guest list, line-up and set times, insights, photo galleries, ambassadors, and Swapy to ask how a night is selling or to draft a campaign. Creating a page and an event is free. Email, custom push and boosts are growth tools on paid plans. Swapy is free everywhere, Basic included.
DICE is an app where many people already look for a gig or a club night, with an all-in displayed price. This page does not say DICE “brings you no fans”. Their discovery network is real. Sway focuses on the electronic scene and publishes one fee per currency, the same on Basic, Starter and Studio.
When to choose Sway, and when to stay on DICE
Sway makes sense if you want a published buyer fee below DICE self sign-up, the ticket price in your account within a week — including before the event — and ticketing, check-in, line-up, galleries, ambassadors and an assistant in one place, on an electronic-music app.
DICE makes sense if your crowd already buys in their app, if you want to appear in a feed of gigs and clubs in the broad sense, or if an all-in price with no fee line (except where the law requires one) matters to how you communicate. A DICE partner contract can also carry different fees: in that case, compare from that contract, not from the self sign-up rates.
Both can be the right fit. It depends on your contract, where people already buy, and what you want to optimise: the extra the public pays, the cash-flow calendar, or the discovery network.
