Create an Event

How to create a rave, festival or concert on the Sway mobile application.

Events are the core of Sway. You can publish raves, festivals, parties and concerts so the community can discover them, mark interest and buy tickets.

Prerequisites

Before creating an event, you must:
  1. Have a Promoter page on Sway.
  2. Be a Manager or Administrator of that Promoter.
If you don't have a promoter yet, create one first or claim an existing one.

How to open the creation screen

  1. Open the Create page sheet. Two entry points open the same sheet:
    • Explore → the + in the top bar;
    • Settings → the floating + at the bottom right.
  2. Choose Create Event.
Settings is reached from your profile: on Explore, tap the avatar at the top right, then the gear icon. See Getting around the app.

Form fields

The form is grouped into six sections: Cover, Identity, When, Where, Who and Publication.

Cover image (required to publish)

Tap the image slot at the top of the form and pick a photo from your gallery. The app then opens a cropper locked to 16:9 — frame the picture and confirm. This image is the main visual on event cards and in sharing previews.

  • Minimum 1 200 × 675 px, so the crop still looks sharp on a large screen.
  • Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, WebP.
You can save an event without a cover image, as long as Published is off. The cover only becomes mandatory when you publish: turning Published on without one refuses the save and tells you what is missing.

Title (required)

The public name of the event.

  • Maximum length: 500 characters.

Publish Event

Toggle Publish Event to control whether the event is immediately visible to all users.

  • Leave it off (draft) if you want to finish the details before publishing.
  • A published event appears in all search results, recommendations and follower feeds.

Event type (required)

Tap one of the type chips:

TypeDescription
FestivalMulti-day or large-scale event with multiple artists
RaveUnderground dance event (typically warehouse or outdoor)
PartyClub night or smaller dance event
ConcertLive music performance
OtherAny other type of event

Promoter (required)

Tap Select promoter and pick the promoter that organises this event.

Only promoters for which you have Manager or Admin permissions appear in the list.

Venue (required)

Tap Select venue and search for the place the event happens.

  • Type the name in the search field to filter results.
  • If the venue does not exist yet, create it first.

Start Date & Time (required)

Tap the field to open the date picker, then pick the time.

End Date & Time

Tap the field to open the date picker, then pick the time.

It is recommended to set an end date & time even when not strictly required, so attendees know when the event finishes.

End Date & Time is required once the timetable is on.

Description (required)

Describe the event: lineup, vibe, theme, dresscode, venue info, links…

  • Supports Markdown formatting.
  • Use the Preview tab to check the rendered result.
  • Maximum length: 2 000 characters.

Genres (optional)

Tap Select Genres to associate music genres with this event. Multiple genres can be selected.

Paste the URL of the external ticket sale page (Resident Advisor, Dice, Shotgun, your own site, etc.). The event page then shows a Buy tickets button that opens that page.

Sway adds utm_source=sway-app, utm_medium=referral and utm_campaign=event-page to the link it opens, so the visit shows up in your ticketing's analytics, unless the link already carries UTM tags.

Sway ticketing is live. If you set your event up to sell through Sway, the Buy tickets button opens the in-app checkout instead and this link is ignored — Sway ticketing always wins over a leftover external link. Ticket types, prices and payouts are configured in the web app; see Ticket types.

Location Precision (optional)

Add a note to provide more detail on the exact location within or around the venue (e.g. "Area 3", "Hall 2", "10th floor", "Main tent").

Timetable

For multi-day events with multiple stages, turn on Enable Timetable.

The Timetable feature unlocks a full lineup editor where you can:
  • Define multiple days (name, start and end times).
  • Add stages (main stage, second stage, outdoor…).
  • Schedule artists per slot (once the event is created, in the edit screen).

With the timetable on, End Date & Time becomes required.

Steps to configure a timetable:

  1. Turn on Enable Timetable.
  2. Tap Manage days and add one entry per day (e.g. Friday, Saturday, Sunday), each with its name, start and end times.
  3. Tap Manage stages and add one entry per stage. At least one day and one stage are required — the form says so if either is empty.
  4. Submit the event.
  5. After creation, open the event in edit mode to schedule artists per stage per slot.

Above the submit button, a checkbox asks you to confirm that you have the legal authority to bind the page you are creating, and that you accept Sway's Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy in its name and in your own name personally. Both are tappable links. The form cannot be submitted until the box is ticked.

The submit button stays greyed out until the form is complete, and the reason is written just above it — a missing required field, a missing cover image, or the legal confirmation.

Submitting the form

Tap CREATE EVENT in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

What happens next:

  1. The event page is created on Sway.
  2. You are automatically added as the Administrator of this event page.
  3. You are automatically set as a follower of the event.
  4. If published: the event immediately appears in feeds and recommendations.

After creation

Once the event page is created, you can:

  • Edit all details, add artists, manage the timetable, and upload additional images.
  • Invite team members to manage the page: open the page, tap the ⋯ menu → Edit, then the manage-access icon in the edit screen's top bar.
  • Share the event page with others so they can follow it.
