Create a Venue

How to create a venue or location page to the Sway mobile application.

Venues on Sway are physical locations where events take place: clubs, warehouses, outdoor festival sites, bars, concert halls, etc. A dedicated venue page aggregates all events held there and shows the location on a map.

How to open the creation screen

  1. Open the Create page sheet. Two entry points open the same sheet:
    • Explore → the + in the top bar;
    • Settings → the floating + at the bottom right.
  2. Choose Create Venue.
Settings is reached from your profile: on Explore, tap the avatar at the top right, then the gear icon. See Getting around the app.

Form fields

The form is grouped into three sections: Cover, Identity and About.

Cover image (required)

Tap the image slot at the top of the form and pick a photo from your gallery. The app then opens a cropper locked to a square (1:1) — frame the picture and confirm.

  • Minimum 400 × 400 px, so the crop still looks sharp on a large screen.
  • Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, WebP.
  • The image is uploaded when you submit the form.
A venue cover is cropped square like an artist's or a promoter's. A wide shot of the room still works — frame the part that reads best as a square.

Venue name (required)

The official name of the location.

  • Maximum length: 500 characters.

Description (required)

  • Supports Markdown formatting.
  • Use the Preview tab in the toolbar to check the rendered output.
  • Maximum length: 2 000 characters.
Tips for a good venue description:
  • Describe the venue: capacity, sound system, history, atmosphere, accessibility, etc.
  • Music genres and resident artists can be assigned after creation from the venue edit page.
  • Social media and contact links can be added after creation from the venue edit page.

Address / Location (required)

Enter the full address of the venue (street number, street name, zip code, city, country).

Example of a well-formatted address:

Berghain, Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, Germany

Above the submit button, a checkbox asks you to confirm that you have the legal authority to bind the page you are creating, and that you accept Sway's Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy in its name and in your own name personally. Both are tappable links. The form cannot be submitted until the box is ticked.

The submit button stays greyed out until the form is complete, and the reason is written just above it — a missing required field, a missing cover image, or the legal confirmation.

Submitting the form

Tap CREATE VENUE in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

What happens next:

  1. The venue page is created on Sway.
  2. You are automatically added as the Administrator of this venue page.
  3. You are automatically set as a follower of the venue.
  4. The venue appears on the Sway map and can be linked to future events.

After creation

Once the venue page is created, you can:

  • Edit all details, add music genres and resident artists from the venue page.
  • Invite team members to manage the page: open the page, tap the ⋯ menu → Edit, then the manage-access icon in the edit screen's top bar.
  • Link events to this venue when creating or editing an event.
  • Share the venue page with others so they can follow it.
