Crew Channels

Crew channels in the Sway web app: #general for the whole crew, open and private channels any member can create, joining, leaving, and who moderates them.

Every crew has its channels, for the people who work in it to talk among themselves. #general is there from the start, for the whole crew; anyone in the crew can open more, around a tour, a festival or a team.

Who is in #general

Everyone in the crew: its owner, its members, and the people with access to one of its pages, such as an artist's manager on that artist's page. Somebody who joins the crew, or gets access to one of its pages, finds #general in Messages straight away; somebody who leaves it stops seeing it.

#general cannot be renamed, archived or left.

Browse the channels

In Messages, under the list of All or Crews, Crew channels holds one button per crew. It opens Channels of and the crew's name:

  • #general,
  • every open channel, joined or not, the ones you have not joined marked Join,
  • the private channels you are in, with a lock.

Each channel says how many people it has, and an archived one reads Archived. A channel you have not joined opens all the same, read only, with Join the channel to write in it. and the Join button at the bottom.

Create a channel

  1. Click New channel at the bottom of the crew's channels, or New then A channel.
  2. Pick the Crew, if you are in several.
  3. Type the Channel name: up to 80 characters, and not one the crew already uses, whatever the capitals (A channel already has this name.).
  4. Choose Who sees it:
    • Open: Anyone in the crew can see it and join it.
    • Private: Only the people you add see it.
  5. Add people, if you want to bring some in now: anyone in the crew.
  6. Click Create the channel.

The people you add are told in the bell: Added to # and the channel's name.

Run a channel

The menu at the top of a channel holds:

ActionWho sees it
Add peopleIn a private channel, its members
Remove peopleIn a private channel, its creator and the moderators
RenameIts creator and the moderators
Archive the channel / Restore the channelIts creator and the moderators
Mute / UnmuteEveryone
LeaveEveryone, in any channel but #general

An archived channel keeps its messages, readable, and takes no new ones: it moves under Archived in the inbox. Leaving an open channel is not final: join it again from the crew's channels. A private one needs a member to add you back.

Moderate the channels

Moderate crew channels is a feature of crew roles. The shipped Owner and Admin roles carry it; tick it on any other role from Roles. Whoever holds it can delete any message in the crew's channels, rename, archive or restore any channel but #general, and remove people from any private channel it is in.

When the crew is suspended

While the crew's subscription is unpaid, its channels stay readable and nothing new can be sent: This crew is suspended: its messages stay readable, and new ones wait until its plan is paid again. The same goes for the conversations the crew holds with other pages.

Write to pages as the crew

A crew is also an identity of its own: it can write to an artist, a venue or a promoter in its own name, and receive their messages. Who may do it is decided by Answer pro messages in the crew's roles: see Messages between pages.

Where the rest lives

  • Write in a conversation: mentions, files, reactions and Swapy, the same in every channel.
  • Crews: the roles that carry the two messaging features.
